In the Nottingham cliff rec art work was commissioned for positive messages and memorials.
“Recently there has been graffiti on some benches and the floor, this was not commissioned by the Young Advisors project and in nature is vandalism. This in itself shows that the work put onto the youth shelter and brick building are portraying positive messages the negative messages are pushed to the ground.”
Local residents see the vandalism to be part of the Young Advisors work on the park, Young Advisors have worked hard with Green City Action to do up the park. Work includes improving the seating, cleaning and trimming the grass, pruning trees and painting.
Spray can artist Casper Carr says: “the spray can art project in Burngreave was the young peoples thoughts on the past events in the area and how they would like to remember there friends and family members who have past away, the projects main focus was to brighten up the park and produce meaningful artwork around the subject of anti gun and knife crime, the project has proved that there are some very intelligent young people in Burngreave who want to make a change for the greater good.”
“The only complaints have been those of misunderstandings that the project and the artwork is glorifying gang culture, these complaints have only been said half way through the project but as a finished product there are clear messages in the artwork that show the project is totally against promoting gang culture.”
