The derelict tennis courts at Abbeyfield Park were full of activity on Thursday 31st August, as local people came to see the plans for the new cricket facility, and meet Yorkshire and England cricketer, Craig White.
Youngsters who like cricket, and interested residents, had the chance to comment on the design of the new facility. They could also try to bowl Craig out, but no-one succeeded! The comments were very positive. Residents felt that this would bring life back into the park, and be excellent for young people and adults.
The project is set to go ahead after Sheffield City Council, in partnership with the England and Yorkshire Cricket Boards, got £80,000 funding from Npower. It's hoped the facility will be ready for the start of next year's cricket season. Craig said, “The new cricket arena will provide a fantastic opportunity for young people to get involved with the game and learn new skills. I've every confidence that it'll be a great success, especially with the enthusiasm I've seen here this evening!”
