Youth Council Burngreave (YCB) are a group of young people from the Burngreave area that aime to raise the voice of young people.
The Role of the Burngreave Youth Council
To represent the views of all Burngreave young people at a local and city-wide level.
To actively involve young people in making Burngreave a better place to live in through volunteering.
To respond to the needs of young people by organising events, activities and information sharing.
To influence the development and delivery of services to young people by meeting and talking directly to decision makers and service providers including New Deal, CYPD, Area Panel, the Networking Group and the Police.
To work with statutory and voluntary organisations in making them more accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of young people. To support groups in adopting the Sheffield Standards of Participation.
To have a say in services delivery, development and service improvement plans.
To work in extending the range of things to do and places to go for young people.
To identify priority issues and to play a campaigning role in bringing about changes.
To set up 2 way channels of communication in order to solicit young peoples views and to provide information and feedback on developments including: – newsletters, radio, web-site, the Messenger, visiting community based organisations and institutions.
To offer training and personal development opportunities as well as tangible rewards for young people involved in the Youth Council.
To receive and comment on Reports on Service Delivery.
To be consulted on the procurement of services.
To organise Youth Conference events in order to bring young people together to celebrate achievements, cultural diversity and to discuss and make decisions on issues pertinent to young people.
To make links with other Youth Councils, both locally and regionally and to share best practice on ways of working.
