Matloub Husayn Ali Khan is currently a Management & PR Consultant and a Free-lance Journalist/Carer. From July 1974 to January1985 worked as a qualified Mechanical Engineer in Sheffield’s east end industrial area (were Meadowhall is now located) and whilst working here he began volunteering in Community development work in 1979 (paid worker from 1982). In Engineering, he gained qualifications in Supervision, Management, and Planning at Stannington (Sheffield) College. In 1986, he gained employment in local government as a Senior Youth & Community Development worker in Sheffield City Council until July 2000. In 1988, he graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a BA Honours Degree in Social Studies. In 1989-90, he graduated from Manchester Metro. University with a Post-Graduate Diploma (now MA) in Community Work and in 1997 enrolled at Nottingham Trent University undertaking an MA in International Cultural Studies for one year. He founded & inspired many ground-breaking projects in sport, culture, spirituality, radio broadcasting and Anti-Racism: Historical National March against Racial Harassment in Sheffield (11/2/1989) & Black Racial Harassment Project 1991-93, global issues (Kashmiri refugees), Meridian CR 1992-96 & re-named as Meridian Youth & Community Company (MYCC) from 1996-2003, Re-Established Darnall Festival, English Institute of Sport, Community development and empowerment through his own strong sense of vocation and of justice. For example, the pioneering ‘Roots 85’ overland trip to Pakistan/Kashmir his place of birth and return to UK. From 1998 to 2005 he was pivotal within the Voluntary sector: Managing Director within Burngreave Community Action Forum (BCAF/T) who initially was the overseers of the 55 Million New Deal Funding and the success of such community empowerment projects like the Burngreave Messenger and Radio projects. Since 2004 (he worked as a Marketing/Sales Manager with Burngreave Community Radio – BCR) and prior to this he set up his own Research & Analysis company Meridian Communications in 2003 and later in July 2004, re-named it as Meridian Communications & PR (MCPR). In 1989-90, he co-edited a book entitled: “Who’d have thought it – The changing face of Sheffield’s East End”, East End Publishing, Sheffield. In 1989, he became a ‘celebrity’ by appearing on BBC TV Mosaic anti-racist Training in housing film & in May 1990 appeared on the ‘Everyman’ programme experiment to discuss the impact the Satanic Verses/Rushdie Affair had on the Muslims & their spirituality. In 1993-94, he suffered from ‘burn-out’ which resulted from the interaction of his inherent vulnerability with both work stresses and several significant life events and he became a service user and survivor through his born- again Islamic Spirituality. His other pioneering projects included the Restorative Justice in schools. Also, Mentoring with SOVA and acting as an Appropriate Adult with some work in Event Management & Security at national events like Glastonbury. From September to October 2007, was a Peer/Patient Reviewer for the Healthcare Commission. His most recent (September/October 2007) Radio Broadcasting was his Morning Show on Radio Ramadhan Sheffield. He regularly writes project proposals and articles of latest trends & thinking. His forthcoming project is the proposed ground-breaking retracing the footsteps of Ibn Battuta 14th century (Muslim geographer/traveller & Journalist) via the Silk-Road via Saudi Arabia.
