Sheffield City Council's Cabinet gave the go-ahead for a formal Expression of Interest for an Academy and this has now been approved by the Government according to a letter to parents from the school.
The next stage will involve further consultation on how the proposals will be put into practice.
The North Sheffield Anti-Academies Alliance presented their petition of 300 signatures to a meeting of the full council and is now organising a public meeting at the Vestry Hall on 22nd May.

In two years’ time all of Burngreave’s secondary schools could be Academies. Parkwood, Fir Vale and Firth Park are all considering becoming independent from the City Council, run by private companies or trusts.
Anti-Academies campaigners have also been busy, with a public meeting held on Thursday 28th February at Shirecliffe Community Centre at 7pm.
New buildings have been promised - if the school votes to become an Academy.
Sheffield North Anti-Academies Alliance are organising a public meeting at the Vestry Hall on Thursday 22nd May 2008, with Paul Holmes MP as the main speaker.
