Sylvia Reaney

Fir Vale resident, Sylvia Reaney, has been writing poetry for many years, often writing about the things she sees around her, and by request for birthdays of family and friends.

Here are a selection of her poems:

Thank you

Thank you! costs nothing, you can give it for free,

Along with a visible smile, that is a pleasure to see,

The receiver of a thank you freely given, sincere and true,

Tomorrow is another day, then the receiver may be you,

To give or take a thank you, is easily said and done,

To see pleasure on each face, the thank you word has won,

So you see the word is priceless, worth much more then gold

Free to everybody, spoken but never sold.

Out Little Corner Shop

Think of out little corner shops, soon to be outcast

Going down in history, a memory of the past

Big supermarkets everywhere, selling as many products as they can,

Anything from furniture to a frying oan

We are tempted to buy the offers, four for the price of one,

No wonder our small shops alas! will soon be gone,

We've turned into a trolley pusher, stand in a great long queue,

Cashiers haven't the time to say hello! Good day and how are you?

Every trolley passing through is filled up to the top,

Cashiers trying hard, to get us out of the shop,

Knowing we are standing and shopping till we could drop

We come away with empty purse, our money it's all gone,

Because we've bought all the offers, fours for the price of one,

This doesn't happen at our small shop, a time of peas they are pleased to sell,

Along with a pleasant smile, and ask if you are well,

So pop into your local shop whatever they may sell,

I had a little corner shop, that's why this tale I tell.

Our thoughts

Our feelings are our daily thoughts, they may be good or bad,

If angry thoughts are on your mind, we shout aloud saying words that are not kind,

Least said soonest mended, is a motto very true,

So think before you speak, let nice words come from you,

There is so much anger in the world today,

Think of only good things, the bad ones lock away,

But if someone makes you angry, you fell something must be said,

Think of another motto, least said soonest mended,

Along with all the other thoughts keep this motto in your head
