Handful of Henna

Sheffield Theatres treated Burngreave to free performances of a Handful of Henna in February, funded by New Deal. So many people came to the first event at the Vestry Hall, that a second performance was arranged. The Council’s Cabinet met on 27th February 2008 and approved officers to submit a formal “Expression of Interest” to develop Parkwood into an Academy. In the end, it wasn’t debated by the full Council, although the Anti-Academies Alliance presented Councillors with a 300-signature petition.

Extended schools means more activities in schools for parents, children and the community, from computer courses to breakfast clubs to belly dancing to keep fit. SYAC Nursery

There were 14 children in the building at the time and the water began seeping under the door very quickly. Within 15 minutes, staff members were wading through knee high water with children on their shoulders. Half an hour later the water was waist high. The flooding destroyed everything from child development records to equipment and toys.

Schools set to expand

The Council has just revealed plans to expand four schools in Burngreave and Fir Vale to cope with increased numbers of children. St Catherine’s and Pye Bank schools would double in size, from one class of 30 in each year group to two classes. In Fir Vale, both Owler Brook and Whiteways would change to taking both infant and junior children, with two classes of 30 children in each year group.
