The site of the old Murco petrol station on Spital Hill, opposite Sorby House, has been a derelict eyesore for 25 years. In April 2017 planning permission was granted for an exciting scheme drawn up by Gary Grayson and the award winning team at G9 Design Architects to redevelop the site into a buzzing part of our community still pending.
The £500,000 development should commence and be completed in 2018. It includes a restaurant with a terrace, takeaway, a bakery and retail space. Prayer rooms are included in the plans. In recognition of the building’s heritage, some aspects of the shape of the petrol station will be evident in the new building.
It is felt that this attractive new building with its useful facilities will make a welcome improvement to this part of Spital Hill.
