Family fun in Fir Vale

Story by Nikki Sentence (Eden Fir Vale)

On Tuesday 13th June, Wensley Community Centre became the setting for a family fun afternoon run by the Eden Team in Fir Vale; a Christian youth and community team all living in the area and investing in local young people and neighbours.

Along with volunteers from our partner church, we welcomed over 60 children in the space of just over an hour, and had great fun face and nail painting, making musical instruments, chalk drawing, colouring, and doing some much needed weeding in the community centre garden. There were lots of activities for young people to explore, and the positive, fun atmosphere (and noise!) was incredible.

Two days later the Eden Team were out again, in the glorious sunshine, for a litter pick in the community. We were joined by children and young people, and even the local police officer. After a couple of hours of hard work the difference was noticeable, and several neighbours brought their brooms out to continue sweeping the streets.

The Eden Team have just relaunched their after school kids club “SHOUT”, for primary aged kids, based at Wensley Community Centre, Wednesdays in term-time 3.15-5pm. There are messy games, Bible stories, dramas, quizzes, loud songs, and much more. And it’s all free! We’d love to see you there. Contact firvale@eden-network.org for more information.
