Hung jury in ‘terror trial’

Story by Kevin Stapelton

The members of the jury in the trial of two men accused of plotting a Christmas terror attack (see Messenger 137) have been dismissed after they failed to agree a verdict.

Farhad Salah, 23, of Brunswick Road, and Andy Star, 32, of Sheffield Road, Chesterfield were arrested in December, accused of plotting to manufacture an explosive device.

Salah and Star both denied preparing to commit acts of terrorism.

After 17 hours of discussion, the jury foreman told Judge Paul Watson that they were unable to agree a verdict for either defendant.

Both men are expected to be retried at Sheffield Crown Court, and have been remanded in custody until then.
