Dear Messenger: disabled parking enforcement

Dear Messenger

Dear Messenger,

The disabled bay on Spital Hill has a sign above the bay which means that this space is enforceable. If someone parks in a disabled bay without a disability and without displaying a blue badge and without the intention of picking someone up who is disabled then you are being selfish.

The council does send out enforcement officers to deal with parking offences. If someone parks in a disabled bay without a blue badge then the council’s parking officers will issue a ticket.

The council can always do more to enforce against antisocial parking. I am sorry to hear about Alice Denham’s experience in trying to find a parking space. This letter highlights that we all need to show more consideration of others and respect parking restrictions.

Councillor Mark Jones
