April saw garden themed murals painted around The Furnival Community Hub on Verdon Street. With funding from SCC Community Fund, The Furnival, 13 children ranging from 3-13, worked with me over two days in the school holidays to produce a vibrant and cheerful painting. This was a part of the Healthy Holidays Activities run by The Furnival.
I came to the project with a rough design idea based on a garden, as the space is overlooked by Verdon St. flats, but with each group of helpers it grew, responding to their suggestions such as adding apples to the trees. The young people worked enthusiastically in chilly temperatures. Passers by encouraged us with enthusiastic comments.
Inspired by our success, and leftover paint, we decided to do another.
