Abbeyfield gardeners visit Brodsworth Hall

Story and photos by Clare Burnell, volunteer gardener

This summer the Abbeyfield Park volunteer gardeners were invited to visit Brodsworth Hall, near Doncaster where they met the head gardener Dan and had a really interesting tour of the beautiful gardens. We got some good ideas to bring back and try in the park, particularly the rule of three that he uses to create their amazing shrubbery beds.

If you visit Abbeyfield Park you can see what the gardeners have done this year to create flowerbeds, plant roses and prune the park shrubbery beds into shape. Our plan is to make the park more colourful in what has been a hard year in our community. Thank you to all our volunteer gardeners, particularly Amy Snow for growing all the beautiful sunflowers. Also thank you to all the local people who have helped by watering, growing and donating plants.

In our gardening group this year we have learnt a lot about growing different types of plants and WEEDS! It is a friendly group and we welcome new volunteers. We garden on Thursday and Saturday mornings 10-12 unless it is raining or snowing
