Vital local tool sharing scheme needs rescue

Tool Bank tools in use.Story by Ruth Heskin

It is with much sadness, that due to a lack of funding, Green City Action (GCA) has closed (temporary, it is hoped) our toolbank at Abbeyfield Park House, where for over 15 years local people have been able to hire, at very low cost, a large selection of DIY and gardening tools.

The tool bank has meant that those on low incomes have accessed resources they wouldn’t usually have been able to, and by being a shared resource has a considerable positive environmental impact, as well as enabling people to share skills with one another informally and through workshops.. Our allotment food growing project continues.

Over the years GCA has delivered a wide variety of green projects from improving local green spaces , to involving schools in food growing, delivering environmental education and events, enabling tool, toy, skill and seed sharing and so much more.

At GCA we are full of ideas and enthusiasm for environmental projects but currently lack the funding and capacity to deliver more.

Please see our website to find out more about GCA and how you might play a part in GCA moving forward.
