The Messenger did not receive vital funding and we now face the prospect of closure with a very short deadline to find alternative funding.

We recognise our accountability to the community – without you there is no Messenger – so we are holding an emergency PUBLIC MEETING to share information about the current situation and where local members can pledge support, offer ideas to keep the Messenger open and have any questions answered by the Trustees

7–8:30pm Thursday 6th October
Abbeyfield Park House, Abbeyfield Park S4 7AT.

If you can’t be there in person we’re offering the opportunity to join us on Zoom. Sign-up in advance at https://tinyurl.com/yvxz3vsn

COVID hasn’t gone away, so for everyone’s safety, please consider wearing face masks if you are able to and please do not attend if you feel unwell.

The Burngreave Messenger has been working hard to re-launch itself since the struggles presented by the pandemic.  It has revitalised the magazine, retained critical in-house media talent, and recruited a new skilled and diverse board. Nevertheless, the Messenger did not receive vital funding. This leaves us in a precarious situation – facing the prospect of closure.

Founded in 1999, the charity has survived over 20 years because it has true value. We are determined to explore every avenue to prevent it from disappearing.

The Board of Trustees will present and share information about the current situation.  This will be followed by a Q&A session, to answer any questions and hopefully harness any community energy and support people may be able to offer.

We are open to ideas, and offers of help, and we really hope to see you there.

The Burngreave Messenger is the UK’s ONLY charity newspaper. We are independent and reach every home in a neighbourhood that faces many challenges. We are described by our readership as promoting inclusion, celebrating diversity, helping people find jobs, and support locally, providing a voice for young people and being a vital part of creating a sense of community and connectivity.
