Sporting Chance: for men 50+ only @ Verdon Street Recreation Centre

Men in Sheffield are being given the opportunity to discover or re-kindle a love for sport and physical activity with the new Sporting Chance project which launched recently in the city. The project is being run by Volunteering Matters who manage more than 180 volunteering programmes across the country, engaging over 30,000 volunteers along the way.

Sporting Chance  aims to reach men who are 50+ and who are wanting in increase their physical activity, make new friends and widen their social circles, getting fitter and having  fun at the same time. Men are welcome to attend  from all areas of the city.

The project is supported by The Peoples Postcode Lottery. Sporting Chance are also looking for men who might like to volunteer  for the project too, please get in touch if you would like to be involved. Sessions are run by qualified instructors and sessions currently running include;

  • Verdon Street Recreation centre – Burngreave,  Multisports, Mondays 10-12 starting on Sept 11th.

All are welcome to come along , have fun and make new friends. Why not come along and join us? We meet on Tuesdays each week from 12.00- 3pm. We eat at 12.00 and then have an afternoon of crafts, stopping for music, tea and cakes.

If you like, you can join in with crafts or chairobics. Friendship Group is £3 per session and includes a light lunch.

Pitsmoor Adventure Playground is now run by a charitable organisation set up by local people, and is as popular as it’s ever been. Qualified staff are on site during opening hours to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for local children and their parents.

Who is it for?
The playground is for children up to 13 years old. Children aged 8 and over are free to come and go. Children aged 6 and 7 may attend unsupervised if accompanied by a child aged 8 or over. Children under 6 must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
